This site uses a visitor map widget from MapMyVisitors to understand whether the portfolio is reaching people and roughly where they’re visiting from. This page describes what that means in practice and what your rights are if you’d like the data removed.

What is collected

When you load a page on this site, the visitor map widget sends the following to MapMyVisitors’ servers in Europe:

  • Your IP address, used to determine an approximate location (city or region level) via an offline geolocation database
  • Browser and operating system information
  • The page URL you visited, and the referring URL if any
  • Date and time of the visit

No cookies are set on your device by the widget. The widget does not track you across other sites.

Why this data is collected

I run this portfolio to share security and privacy work and to be reachable to people who might want to connect over it. Knowing whether the site is actually reaching people, and roughly where from, is the only reason this data exists.

Lawful basis

I rely on legitimate interest under GDPR Article 6(1)(f) for this processing. The interest is understanding whether the site is reaching its audience. The data collected is minimal and held on EU servers. It is not used for profiling, advertising, or any commercial purpose. You can object at any time using the contact below.

Retention

Visitor data is held by MapMyVisitors for the duration of my active account with them. Their full retention policy is available in their privacy policy.

Your rights

Under GDPR (and UK GDPR / Swiss FADP if you are in those jurisdictions), you can request:

  • A copy of the personal data held about you
  • Correction of inaccurate data
  • Erasure of your data
  • Restriction of processing
  • A copy of your data in a portable format
  • That I stop processing your data

You can also lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority if you believe your data has been mishandled.

Third-party processor

The visitor map service is operated by MapMyVisitors, who process visitor data on my behalf as a data processor under GDPR Article 28. Their data handling is described in their privacy policy.
